A Revolutionary Technique
Following a hand injury, Jean-François reinvented his playing technique based on research into biomechanics and performance psychology. This work enabled him to pursue a career as a concert performer and led to his doctorate. In 2011, he published Classical Guitarists: The Secrets of Your Potential, a book revealing his discoveries.
An Innovative Teacher
Jean-François teaches with passion at the Université de Sherbrooke, where he heads the music department and oversees musical performance and creation. As a sought-after pedagogue, he is regularly invited to give master classes and lectures around the world. He plays a key role in the modernization of guitar teaching, integrating scientific approaches to renew traditional teaching methods.
Awards and Recognition
Jean-François Desrosby has been honored with the Prize with High Distinction in Guitar from the Conservatoires de musique du Québec, and has received several grants from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. His research work has also been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec, and the Université de Sherbrooke.
